A By-Far Summer Favorite: Lemon's Review of Alice + Ames' baby rompers

Ruffle details, criss cross backing, custom painted fabric. Yes, please!

Hazel gifted me these handmade rompers (or what Alice + Ames calls sunsuits) when she and her kiddos dropped by a week ago. And, oh how I love them.  Hazel’s been a fan of A + A, ever since her second born became obsessed with “twirl” dresses.

Alice + Ames was started by Stacie Lang back in 2015. Stacie (a former culinary student, turned photographer, now entrepreneur and mum of three) wanted to find dresses that could both encourage and withstand her daughters' adventuring all while looking classic and actually feeling comfortable. Turns out, the selection was rather sub par, so, Stacie drove to LA’s garment district (with a five-week-old baby on her hip) and started her own clothing line. Touted by the likes of Joanna Gaines and Kimberly Cook, Alice + Ames outfits are handmade in California. Stacie also recently launched a line for women as well, it’s called suunday and it’s beyond gorgeous.

The elastic waistband in the romper makes for easier crawling and a heck-a-more more stretch. We can go from the playground to nap time all in one outfit.

What I Love About These Rompers:  These are super washable and oh-so-wearable, which means I can dress “R” in them for everyday use—instead of storing them in some bottom drawer for “special occasion” and worrying that it’ll stain after just one wear. The romper fabric has a twin version in the twirl-dress lineup, making for a great photos if you’re the Von Trapp matching-mama. I also love that Alice + Ames patterns are handpainted and then dyed, it’s just all so detail focused.

Good to Knows: Since these are handmade, the fit between the rompers are just a tiny bit different, but for me, that’s the magic of it all. Also, one small plastic snaps on “R’s” summer floral romper did tend to come unsnapped (luckily there are two more to keep things in place) although, I suspect that “R’s” constant right-heavy army crawling is probably more of the culprit than any real problem in manufacturing.

Here’s a close-up of the snaps on these rompers, I appreciate that they are lightweight and not clunky, like the typical metal ones.

Alice + Ames packaging is made from 100% recycled paper and printed with waterbased inks. Go ahead and toss the bag in your compost pile because it’s biodegradable.

Happy rompering.
