C&C Book Review: Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod

I've always been a bit of chirping morning bird, but by my senior year in college, I noticed it was getting harder and harder for me to wake up enthusiastically in the early AM hours.

Then work happened. Then baby happened.

And I found the snooze button became even more alluring.  It's a tad bit embarrassing to admit how often I’ve slept in, only to rush through getting ready and be out the door in <20 minutes.

So, when my coworkers brought up this book entitled, “Miracle Morning” I wasn’t sure what to think. I delved into their conversation.

I listened to their experiences, I audibled the heck out of the book, and now I’m writing this review.

Hal Elrond’s premise in Miracle Morning, focuses on his "SAVERS" (silence, affirmations, visualizations, exercise, reading and scribing). Basically, you start your day strong by doing the (truly) important stuff first. Taking time to meditate and live in the moment (silence). Reminding yourself of your priorities and potential (affirmations).  Chasing good vibes via a dream board (visualizations).  Helping your body rev. up for the day (exercise). Followed by proactively learning (reading) and writing down your thoughts/insights (scribing).

I decided to try Elrond’s challenge.

The first few days were rough.

Eventually, I was able to last three weeks (excluding weekends) on the program.

In general, I did become quite fond of the whole process. It was lovely arriving at work earlier, knowing that the first hour of my day had already felt incredibly productive. It was also liberating to get some extra time to focus on my self, all while the rest of the house snoozed.

Some Negatives: Elrond’s writing style does tend to feel “sales pitchy” especially when he describes his website and other platforms he is involved in. If that bothers you, it might be best to skip straight to the middle of the book (past the autobiography chapters) to get straight into the heart of the content.

Some Positives: I love that Elrond promotes setting aside time to maximize your own potential. Some of his ideas are fueled with an intensity that doesn’t quite resonate with me (or this mommy-stage that I’m in). I think tweaking some of the ideas to make the habits he promotes a bit more leisurely (and adaptable for parents) makes for a next great step.

Final Verdict: Blinkist this book to get the most for your time and money.

Have you read Elrond’s book before? Did you enjoy it? Did it change your life? What morning routines work for you? Happy ready and (hopefully) happy early rising!

XOXO,

Lemon
