Sweet Seaweed Shampoo: Four Reasons Why Bladderwrack Will Blow Your Mind

Sweet Seaweed Shampoo: Four Reasons Why Bladderwrack Will Blow Your Mind

This week I ran out of shampoo. In between packing and wrapping up work, I didn’t end up swinging by whole foods for my go-to brand (Acure Moroccan Argan), so instead, I stopped by my local health food store and decided to give Seaweed Bath Co’s shampoo a try. Of course, that meant a review would be pending.

Seaweed Bath Co uses sustainably-harvested bladderwrack seaweed.  Bladderwrack’s benefits are four-fold: deep hydration, naturally antibacterial (for less dandruff), color-safe and growth stimulating. All colors in this shampoo come from plant-based ingredients. The fragrance (Eucalyptus and Peppermint) comes from pure unadulterated essential oils. Gluten Free and Paraben Free. The bottle is 100% post-consumer recycled plastic.

Besides all the bladderwrack, this shampoo also uses argan oil.  Aargan oil has tons of Vitamin E and essential fatty acids to repair and strengthen your strands. The argan oil is imported from Morocco. Another ingredient I appreciated is the aloe leaf juice with its anti-inflammatory benefits.

The Pros: Considering this shampoo is sulfate free, it still lathers very nicely. I’ve found I usually add half-a-dime size into my palm and then repeat for a second wash to get more lather (and spread the shampoo more evenly across the scalp).  For my ex-no-poo friends out there, this shampoo is a lovely way to keep hair looking cleaner for longer without going cold turkey on washing your hair.  With ACURE I can last max 2 days, but with Seaweed Bath Co’s shampoo I can push 3 days.

I’ve also found that my hair retains moisture longer after using this shampoo.  Usually, my Scandinavian strands (thanks grandma) air dry in less than 40 minutes. With this shampoo it takes nearly double that time.

You can also find about the sourcing of Seaweed Bath Co’s ingredients easily on their website and their FAQ page is a wealth of info.  Oh, and for sensitive noses, the Seaweed Bath Co also offers an unscented version of their shampoo that you can customize with your own blend of essential oils.

The Cons:

I have noticed that my hair does feel more tangled after using this shampoo when compared to Acure.  Also, if you have super sensitive eyes or are highly allergic to products, this might not be the best option for you.

Cheers,

Hazel

A few ingredients to be mindful of include Cocamidopropyl BetaineSodium Benzoate & Potassium Sorbate

C&C Overall -  This shampoo smells lovely and is a great alternative to help with dandruff. The shampoo formula isn't a thick consistency but if you apply a small amount twice it will lather up. I appreciated that it was color-safe. It makes my "purchase again" list.

Good for Earth - This is where Seaweed Bath Co really shines. The bladderwrack seaweed Seaweed Bath Co harvests for this shampoo is gathered by hand in Maine in a sustainable way that allows it to regrow to the same size or larger within 36 months. Seaweed Bath Co harvesting team also implements a rotation of harvest sites to ensure each area is allowed to fully regenerate. This shampoo bottle is made of 100% post consumer plastic and is also recyclable. Seaweed Bath Co also supports the Whole Planet Foundation.
