Cerebelly: A Wholesome Journey of Ethics and Eco-friendliness in Brain-Boosting Nutrition

In a world that's constantly evolving, Lemon and I always on the lookout for products that offer more than just great taste - we want food that feeds our bodies, minds, and our conscience. That's where Cerebelly comes into play. It's not just about food; it's about ethics, sustainability, transparency and a whole lot of brain-boosting goodness.

Cerebelly is the only baby food with 16 key brain-supporting nutrients critical for optimal brain development. Cerebelly is also unique for being the first ever children's food brand to recieve the Clean Label Project Purity Award which independently tests their foods for over 400 different contaminants including heavy metals, chemicals, plastics, pesticides, and other toxins. You can see their official certification here

The Cerebelly story, starts with a Dr. Teresa Purzner, A practicing neurosurgeon mum-of-three, who was inspired to go back to school to find a better treatment for pediatric brain cancer, she ended up earning a PhD in Developmental Neurobiology at Stanford while becoming fascinated with early childhood optimal brain development.

She learned that a baby’s brain doubles in size by its first year and reaches nearly 80% of development by the age of 5. Eventually Dr. Purzner became passionate about how she could create foods that help fill nutrtional gaps during that critical age window.

What I Love About It | If you're all about clean, organic ingredients, you'll be thrilled to know that Cerebelly is free from artificial flavors, sweeteners, and GMOs. Their products are also known for being tasty without adding a single gram of added sugar. The company's products are packed with essential nutrients like DHA (sourced from vegan, non-GMO algae oil) choline, and folate, which are known to promote healthy brain growth and cognitive function. They also have a personalized portion of their website that helps you pick the ideal pouches and snacks for your baby’s age range and preferences.

Good To Knows | Some of the pouch flavors have been a bit of a hit-or-miss with our family and the the broccoli pea pouches had a pretty strong scent that even my youngest wasn’t so sure about. I also wish there could be a few more flavors to choose from with the smart bars. *Oh and make sure you are attentive about giving the smart bars to solid-eating kiddos. The bars aren’t like puffs (they don’t disintegrate) so you’ll want to only give the bars to toddlers that have some tried-and-true experience eating harder foods with their teeth first.

Price | $1.50 per bar and $2.97 per pouch

Ethics | Cerebelly is also involved in social responsibility initiatives. The brand has a "1% for the Planet" pledge, which means they donate 1% of their sales to environmental causes. This demonstrates their commitment to making a positive impact on the planet. The brand is transparent about where its ingredients come from and how its products are made. They also partner with Baby2Baby and donate a portion of the food we make to children in need. You can read a bit more about that here.

Sustainability | Cerebelly is committed to using organic ingredients in its products. Organic farming promotes biodiversity, reduces the use of harmful pesticides, and nurtures the soil, making it a more sustainable and eco-friendly choice. Cerebelly's products are free from genetically modified organisms (GMOs). This ensures the preservation of traditional and natural farming practices, which can be vital for the environment. They have partnered with TerraCycle to offer a free Cerebelly Recycling Program. It’s a pretty proactive initiative where you can print a free shipping label to ship 5 lbs of your Cerebelly pouches to TerraCycle, and they’ll recycle them and you’ll even get a 15% off promo code for your next Cerebelly purchase.

C & C Overall Review | I love how conscious consumerism is on the rise and Cerebelly stands out as a shining example of a brand that not only meets my toddler’s nutritional needs but also aligns with my values and aspirations for a healthier more ethical earth. This is one of my favorite brand we’ve reviewed in 2023.

Do you have any baby/toddler brands that you love? Which brands are on the cutting edge when it comes to ethics and ecofriendly processes? We’d love to hear! Send us a message and share your feedback and knowledge.

Cheers,

Hazel
